Celebration of Gardeners – Library Entrance Garden by Carolyn Feczko

Library Entrance Garden

We have three garden club members who maintain the library entrance garden:

Carolyn Feczko
Regina Lombardo
Marybeth Stewart

The goal this year was to grow an eye catching, colorful garden because of its high visibility location. It was planted just before the plant sale with the help of

Leslie Lincoln
Michelle Noonan
Fran Sullivan

I particularly want to thank the board of Norfolk Garden Club for approving this garden because using annuals is not the typical garden for us.

People notice: taking care of this garden has been fun!  A wide range and surprising number of people – toddlers to retirees – visit the library.  So many notice the garden and offer their thanks and kind words, questions and comments.  It really makes you smile and feel good.

As we look ahead, next year is a transition year as we begin the shift to a combo of perennials and annuals.

  • Overall, we’re adding perennials to get to a majority of perennials but still mix in annuals to keep it bright and colorful.
  • So far, we have Cranebill geranium from the Stony Brook butterfly garden and some sedum for fall color.
  • We planted some ground covers as place holders so we can spread the cost of purchased plants over a couple of years.
  • In the spring we’ll add a couple of foot paths so we can reach the plants easier.

If you see something there that needs attention, please let me know so we can take care of it. Thank you!
