Winter Floral Design Presentation with Laurene Hulbig

Laurene Hulbig of Laurene Hulbig Floral Design will provide the Club with inspiration for our Artisan Fair arrangements by demonstrating winter floral designs using a selection of dried, fresh, and foraged flowers and accoutrements.
Laurene sustainably and organically grows most of the flowers used in her floral designs and can often be found at the Norfolk Farmers’ Market, as well as teaching floral design classes at Briggs Nursery.

Cut Greens for Holiday Baskets & Winter Fundraiser
Date and Time: Saturday, November 22, 2025 @ 1:00 p.m.
Location: Pine Street Recreation Center
Enter the parking lot at the entrance closest to the center of town. We will walk the loop behind the Pond Street complex and cut greens for our basket workshop. Bring clippers and large plastic bags.
Decorate the Vanderwolf Tree on Town Hill

Make Holiday Baskets for the Norfolk Food Pantry
Date and Time: Monday, November 24, 2025 @ 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Location: Emmanuel Baptist Church, 63 Rockwood Road, Norfolk
Each year, club members share in the joy of giving during the holidays by making holiday green baskets, which are distributed to families served by the Norfolk Food Pantry.
Members should start to collect cones, pods, twigs, and grasses from their gardens to be combined with greens that are gathered from the area. Pods and twigs can be sprayed with gold. All items are to be brought directly to the workshop.
Bring clippers, cones, pods, twigs, and grasses if you have them.
Artisan Fair Workshop – Decorating Sled, Skates, Skis & arrangements

Location: Jill Kennedy’s house, 7 Margauxs Way
Club members will make arrangements for the Artisan Fair and bows to be sold at the Lion’s Club wreath sale.
Please be aware climbing/descending a flight of stairs will be necessary.

Potluck and 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Garden Club of Norfolk
“Holiday Decorations at the White House” Presentation
Date and Time: Wednesday, December 10, 2025 @ 6:30 p.m. (social) 7:00 p.m. (program)
Location: The Grange, 28 Rockwood Road, Norfolk
Every year, at the end of November, over 125 volunteers take just a few days to decorate both public and private spaces at the White House. The First Lady, White House Staff, White House Historical Association, and the National Park Service spend many months planning, designing, and installing a marvelous holiday display. Speaker Betsy Szymczak will show photos of her visits to the White House in December 2016 and 2023.
Today, Betsy is a member of the American Dahlia Society (ADS), the Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New England Dahlia Societies.

Winter Seeding Workshop with Stephanie Markham

Club member Stephanie Markham will demonstrate and lead a hands-on workshop on how to create seed bombs and other winter seeding methods, including using pots and milk jugs. The evening will include a seed exchange for those who wish to bring or take seeds.

The Art & Science of Pruning by Christie Dustman
Co-hosting with Wrentham Garden Club

Pruning is first a thinking activity and then a physical activity. Come and learn how a Master Pruner thinks about her pruning work.
We will start by learning about the proper tools for the job. Then, Christie will begin pruning branches of different plants that members bring that night. She will discuss her process and techniques for similar types of plants.

President of New England Dahlia Society, Gabriele Zybarth will talk with us about:
- Planting and growing dahlias: soil, sun, fertilizer, growth support, watering
- Pests and diseases: How to recognize, prevent, and treat – organic treatments
- Best dahlia varieties for specific purposes
- Dahlias as part of a garden plan: stand-alone dahlia beds versus ideas for companion planting
- Digging, dividing, and overwintering dahlia tubers

Club Working Meeting in preparation for the Annual Plant, Bake & Garden Treasures Sale
Date and Time: Wednesday, May 13, 2026 @ 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Stephanie Hamel’s home, 8 Lee Ann Drive, Norfolk (the last house on the right… with hundreds of plants in the side yard! Park in the driveway or the cul-de-sac)
All plants will be trimmed, soil added as needed, and pots will be cleaned, labeled, and made ready for sale.
Members should bring:
- Garden gloves (if desired)
- Clippers for trimming plants
- Green thumbs and excitement to make all plants “sale-worthy”
Annual Plant, Bake & Garden Treasures Sale
